The Razer Blade 15 Advanced Gaming Laptop 2020 is a sleek and powerful gaming laptop that packs a punch. This gaming laptop has a 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) display with an impressive 144Hz refresh rate. It also has an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU. This laptop is designed for hardcore gamers who want to take their gaming experience to the next level. The Razer Blade 15 Advanced Gaming Laptop 2020 has a slim and lightweight design so it can easily be taken on the go without sacrificing performance. With its large storage capacity and powerful hardware, this gaming laptop is perfect for all your gaming needs.

The Blade 15 lineup has been simplified, with Advanced and Base models removed, but what’s left is an excellent, thin, stylish gaming notebook. This laptop remains popular because it has a powerful Core i7-127800H processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU, and is only 4.4 pounds and 0.57 inches thick.

Still provides an assortment of ports, including a Thunderbolt 4, USB Type-C and Type-A, and an SD card reader. But competing gaming laptops were better in non-gaming benchmarks.

To have a premium look and feel you need to pay a premium price. A standard Razer costs $2,499 but we reviewed the Razer Blade at a cost of $2,999. It’s expensive, but it has been one of our favorite gaming laptops for years.
We were able to try out the Razer Blade 15 and saw how far gaming laptops have come. The RTX 3080 Ti / i9-12900H configuration I had on my desk was extraordinary. Therefore, this rig’s capability to provide these great levels of performance and the thin, easily transportable chassis has led it to the very top spot of the best laptops for gaming in the market.
Razer Blade 14 (2022) Internals Photo
We’re not dealing with just any cheap computer. The 2022 Razer Blade 15 starts at $2,499.99 for an RTX 3060 configuration. You certainly pay for the luxury name, but if you’re looking for the most technically capable device, the cost is well worth the benefits.

In other words, if you’re just looking for a machine you can use periodically, you won’t get solid value by going all out on this laptop. And those playing lighter games will not require the horsepower on offer here. If you want a top-of-the-line rig (and have the budget to spend on it), our testing speaks for itself.
My Shadow of the Tomb Raider ran smoothly at 74fps in 4K with everything cranked up to 11. In addition to the 60+ frames per second at 1440p on Red Dead Redemption 2, I also saw 78 frames per second at the same resolution on The Division 2. The only thing I had to drop to hit higher frame rates in 4K was a few more taxing visual effects. All the results looked stunning.

As for performance, component horsepower, and portability, the Razer Blade 15 can’t be beat. After all, the only other machine with RTX 3080 Ti graphics cards at the time of writing can’t beat the Razer Blade 15.
Pros
  • Unparalleled build quality
  • Wide range of CPU/GPU options
  • Looks as good as it performs
  • Great battery life
Cons
  • Trackpad can be awkward
  • Razer premium price

The Acer Predator Helios 300 is one of the most popular gaming laptops on the market. It is an excellent choice for gamers looking for a great balance of performance, price, and portability. It features an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, making it a powerful gaming machine. The laptop also comes with a 15.6-inch full HD display and a 256GB SSD for fast loading times. The Acer Predator Helios 300 is also highly portable and has a long battery life of up to 8 hours, making it ideal for gaming on the go. It also has excellent cooling system, allowing you to game for long periods of time without overheating. All in all, the Acer Predator Helios 300 is one of the best gaming laptops you can buy right now.

Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-55-764C Review - Root Nation

We really loved the Acer Predator Helios 300 last time during the GTX 10-series era, and the new generation still manages to exceed its weight class when compared to other $1,500 laptops. It’s not the best gaming laptop around, but it’s one of the best-value machines.

Newer version of the Helios come with RTX 3060 graphics cards, 144Hz screens and a sleeker form factor while maintaining their pricepoint.
However, you can upgrade your storage as easily as getting a screwdriver by installing an SSD and an HDD in the laptop’s slots. It is often necessary to get handy with upgrades at this end of the price range, and the Helios 300 is no exception.

Acer’s one-touch GPU overclocking feature, the Turbo button, is a great choice if you’re desperate for just that little bit of extra gaming performance. As much gaming performance as possible can be eked out of the Predator laptops with this simple feature.

Inside Acer Predator Helios 300 (PH317-55) - disassembly and upgrade options | LaptopMedia.com

While it sounds interesting, as we saw earlier this year with the Predator Triton, you really only get a 1-3% increase in performance. It also causes your computer to run extremely hot and loud. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth it unless you are truly committed to maximizing your frame rate. Or you have a really good noise-canceling gaming headset.

Its $1,500 sticker price belies its high-end 1080p gaming performance. Even without the Turbo button. There are a few design changes that are smart, like the power cord being at the back instead of the side, having room for three storage drives, and the price/performance ratio is excellent. In short, the Acer Predator Helios 300 is a strong contender for the best gaming laptop.
Pros
  • Great performance for the price
  • Decent battery life
  • Room for 2x SSDs, 1x HDD
Cons
  • Average CPU performance

The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro is one of the most powerful gaming laptops available. It features a 10th-gen Intel Core i7 processor and a powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 GPU. This laptop also has a generous 16GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD storage drive to store your games.

The Legion 5 Pro has an impressive 144Hz refresh rate display that allows for smooth gameplay. Furthermore, the laptop has a slim and lightweight design, making it easy to carry around and game on-the-go.

The Legion 5 Pro is perfect for gamers who are looking for a laptop that offers good performance at an affordable price. It’s one of the best options for gamers who need a gaming laptop that can handle demanding games with ease. The Legion 5 Pro is definitely one of the best gaming laptops available today.

Legion Laptop Buyers Guide - What's the Best Gaming Laptop for You? - YouTube

Lenovo has never released a better gaming laptop than the Legion 5 Pro. Priced at less than $2,000, it provides strong performance and a sleek design. This monitor has no problems in any game we tried at its native resolution of 2560×1600. Add to this the 165Hz refresh rate, and the legion 5 Pro will be more than able to handle anything you throw at it.

Beyond how it performs, one of the best things about the Legion 5 Pro is its 16:10 screen. As its unique shape on the gaming laptop market, 16:10 screens allow you to multi-task if you plan to use the Legion 5 Pro for work. The keyboard is also pleasant to use, with a generous 1.5mm of key travel, as well as full four-zone programmable backlighting.

Updating any gaming laptop as RAM and storage demands increase is possible. For the Legion 5, there are two SODIMM slots for up to 64GB of DDR5 memory, and there are two M.2 PCIe x4 slots for gen 4 SSDs. Also on the interior you will find the AMD Ryzen 7 6800H and its accompanying battery, which lasts for 15 hours and 13 minutes of web browsing or 9 hours and 22 minutes of video playback in tandem. Now we conducted the battery tests with the Windows Better Performance mode turned on, screen brightness set to 120 nits, and all other programs, including other browser and email apps, turned off.

The main disadvantage of the Legion is its battery life: we managed only about four and a half hours of continuous use. While it’s not the worst we’ve seen from a gaming laptop, it still doesn’t hold a candle to the G15. But it does charge incredibly fast, with the 300W power brick it comes with. The Legion might be better for people on the go as opposed to the G15.

Pros
  • Excellent screen
  • Very good performance
  • User-upgradable RAM and storage
  • Excellent hardware controls
  • Decent value for money
Cons
  • Middling battery life for a Zen 3 CPU
  • Fairly heavy at 5.4 pounds
  • Poor mic and speakers
  • 720p webcam
  • Runs noticeably hot

The MSI GE76 Raider is one of the best gaming laptops you can buy right now. It is powered by a powerful Intel Core i7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card for an optimal gaming experience. The laptop has a 17.3-inch Full HD display and an impressive 512GB SSD that ensures fast loading times.

The laptop also features an amazing sound system with four speakers and a subwoofer to deliver an immersive gaming experience. Additionally, the laptop comes with a full-size mechanical keyboard for precise and accurate control. For those who want to take their gaming setup on the go, the MSI GE76 Raider is lightweight and portable enough to be taken anywhere. With all these features, the MSI GE76 Raider is one of the best gaming laptops available today.

This laptop is designed for all business/school needs, so it will fit into just about any work environment without turning heads. It can also easily work as your second laptop (outside of gaming) to use in between meetings and assignments. If you’re looking for this product to function exclusively for high-powered multimedia projects (e.g. 4K video editing or scientific research), you may find that it has a smaller memory and a smaller battery.

Packing an Intel Core i7 processor (though it’s an older generation 11800H and not one of the more modern 12th-gen Alder Lake chips) and an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti graphics card, the GF63 Thin won’t hit 60fps at ultra settings in every game, but lowering texture details a little will see you reach comfortable frame rates in most titles on its 15.6-inch 1080p display. It’s also quieter than many gaming laptops when the fans are at full power, too.

Previously, previous series of the GF63 was with GPU’s such as the GTX 1660 and 1650, but this move forward to the RTX is what is making a game changer. Nvidia’s budget GPU is stronger than ever before, making them a good option for a gaming laptop for someone that doesn’t want to pay the price of the world.

Intel Core i9-12900HK With RTX 3080 Ti Review: MSI's GE76 Raider Laptop Screams - Page 3 | HotHardware

The RTX 3050 Ti laptop graphics card inside this MSI GF63 Thin is not competitive when resolution is at 1080p and above, but that’s what the graphics card is aiming for. If you can play the games without dropping below a frame rate of 30, you can enjoy the game at a high graphics setting.

As long as you are willing to adjust your in-game settings, hitting 60 frames per second should not be hard. When running Dirt 5 with Ultra graphics, I averaged 42 frames per second and was able to boost this number to 62 when lowering the graphics preset to High and adjusting individual in-game settings down to Medium. Still, it still looked great too because of the clear screen on the GF63 Thin’s display.Ray tracing isn’t really an option with the lower-end RTX cards, so don’t get your hopes up there. When it was enabled in Cyberpunk 2077, the frame rate became worse. But even when turning off settings, the frame rate was quite bad, as Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling isn’t very effective with ray tracing. Ray tracing is still not a very popular feature for many games.

Compared to 12th-generation processors, performance on these 11th-generation chips can feel mediocre, but this doesn’t detract too much from the experience. In CPU-intensive games (like the Total War strategy series) performance was superb. Considering the cost, I am highly impressed with overall gaming performance.
The 17.3-inch, 1080p display goes up to 360 Hz, which is great for esports players, but everyone else might want to consider a 1440p or 4K display, depending on available configurations.

We tested this laptop at $3,999, which is enough to make you tear up when you check your bank account. That’s an awful lot to spend on a laptop (we imagine DDR5 memory partially brings that price up), but it’s also the best performer we’ve seen recently.
Pros
  • Excellent performance given the price
  • Solid build quality
  • Good range of ports
Cons
  • Average battery life
  • Some annoying bloatware
  • Charge cable can block a USB port

The Alienware M15 R7 is bringing the Alienware laptops of yesteryear into modernity with Intel’s new processors and NVIDIA’s high-performance graphics cards. Although prices are currently on the high side, since this version offers new features not available on the earlier model, it might be worth the splurge.

In our benchmarks and stress tests, our test unit was easily sailing through our benchmarks and stress testing. It came with an i7-12700H processor and an RTX 3070 Ti graphics card. The beast held up to heavy games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Metro Exodus, capturing 76fps in RDR2 on Ultra settings and 72fps in Metro Exodus on maximum settings.

Alienware m15 R4 laptop in review: Now also with a mechanical keyboard - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

In any case, it’s worth noting that this machine is built exclusively to provide power. It’s an unusually heavy machine – the charger alone is almost as long as the keyboard. This isn’t going to be a gaming laptop you’ll be able to throw into a backpack – and those fans certainly can scream! But if you’re looking for an all-rounder that can compete with machines much more expensive, these sacrifices are easy to accept.

Due to the recently launched X-series, Alienware’s M-series now falls in the middle of its range, making the Alienware M15 R7 more affordable than its predecessor. There are cheaper machines out there, but without Alienware’s pedigree. For most players, this laptop offers great performance at a great price, and makes few sacrifices in order to get there. In terms of price and market reach, this is the best Alienware gaming laptop on paper.

Considering that the M-series has recently been launched, it is now situated in the middle of Alienware’s product range. And it is more affordable as a result, being less expensive than the older M15. There are cheaper laptops out there, but you wouldn’t get Alienware’s warranty and quality. In summary, for a gaming laptop at this price and with these specs, this is the best available from Alienware, both on paper and in real life.

Pros
  • Incredible performance
  • Satisfying keyboard
  • Fast display
  • Some premium design features
Cons
  • Cheaper plastic body
  • Difficult to transport
  • Particularly loud fans

The Asus TUF Dash F15 is one of the best gaming laptops for those on a budget. It packs a powerful 9th-gen Intel Core i7 processor and an Nvidia RTX 2060 Max-Q graphics card, making it capable of handling even the most demanding games. It’s also one of the lightest gaming laptops in its price range, weighing in at just 4.3 pounds.

The laptop also includes 8 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage, and a single USB Type-C port. It’s a great choice for those looking for an affordable gaming laptop that doesn’t skimp on performance.

ASUS Announces All-New Slim and Light TUF Dash F15 Gaming Laptop in the UAE - News | Khaleej Times

If you’re looking to grab an RTX 30-Series card but don’t want to break too far past $1,000 / £1,000, the Asus TUF Dash F15 is going to be your best bet. In our testing, we found this budget-friendly machine to charge through even some of the more demanding titles as if it sat in a much higher price bracket – despite the weaker 4-core i7-11370H processor at the helm. Plus, you’re still getting the super slimline form factor that has proven so popular over the last couple of years.

The key here is that you can outfit it with the full 11th generation i7 / 1TB / 32GB RAM suite of turbo power – or you can pick up a more conservative spec for a little less cash. That means you won’t need to spend on high-end gear that you might not even get to use if you’re running less demanding titles.

We were particularly impressed by how well those more power-hungry components played together in a cheaper chassis. We didn’t notice any over-heating issues here, and while we did have to make some sacrifices to more demanding titles, we still managed to hit 60fps+ on an RTX 3070 with consistency. We also tested an RTX 3060 unit and found similar performance levels when dropping a few sliders down a fraction as well, which means you’re sorted at all ends of the budget here.
Pros
  • Great pricing
  • Slimline design
  • Solid performance
Cons
  • Soft membrane keys

Additionally, the device features 8GB of DDR4 RAM for smooth multitasking, and 512GB of SSD storage for lightning-fast load times. In addition to the backlit keyboard, dual Harman Kardon-certified speakers provide immersive audio with deep bass and clear trebles for late-night playing.

Additionally, this laptop has excellent battery life, lasting up to 7 hours between charges, making it ideal for gaming sessions and travel. A gaming laptop with all of these features for under $1000 is the ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin and Light Laptop.

In comparison to many 15 inch laptops, the VivoBook 15(X505z) is narrower and lighter. With a thickness of 18.9mm and a weight of 1.6kg, it is easy to carry and never feels too bulky. It has two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port (both Type-A), a USB Type-C 3.1 port (Gen1), HDMI, a headphone and microphone combo port, Gigabit Ethernet, and a full-sized SD card slot.

Built with a lightweight chassis, fantastic battery life, and superb build quality, it’s easy to see why the ASUS TUF DASH F15 is such a popular choice. ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin and Light Laptop brings amazing gaming power and a light-weight design to gamers on the go.

The laptop’s Intel Core i5 processor and NVIDIA GeForce MX330 graphics card provide enough power for all but the most demanding games at medium settings. Additionally, the device has 8GB of DDR4 RAM for lag-free multitasking and 512GB of SSD storage for fast startup speeds.

Besides the backlit keyboard and the dual Harman Kardon-certified speakers with immersive audio with deep bass and clear trebles for late-night playing, this laptop also has excellent battery life, lasting up to 7 hours between charges, which is perfect for traveling or for gaming sessions. For under $1000, I recommend the ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin and Light Laptop with all these features.

Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-58) review | LaptopMedia.com

This, of course, has a performance advantage when you look at the results in the game: 86fps on high settings with the new AMD Ryzen 5800H and the Nvidia RTX 3060, and only 77fps on ultra settings. The SSD could be a bit faster, but it shouldn’t be a problem. In most games, the frame rate will exceed 60fps at maximum settings, and ray-tracing is also an option, though it requires additional resources.

Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-58) review | LaptopMedia.com

Although the display is somewhat dull compared to other laptops in the same price range, and the battery life isn’t great, it doesn’t seem like a major compromise, since the display has a good refresh rate of 144Hz. By sacrificing nice-to-have features, the RTX 3060 Nitro 5 offers some impressive components at a budget price. There’s no frills with this gaming laptop, so if you just want raw power, you’ll like it.

Despite the lackluster screen and unimpressive battery life, considering the price point, these feel like fair tradeoffs, particularly since the display remains at an excellent 144Hz refresh rate. Affordably priced at $1,129 (other models range from $700 to $2,100), the RTX 3060 Nitro 5 packs a lot of impressive components while sacrificing some nice-to-have features. Because of that, it’s perfect for people who want raw power without all the extras that can make gaming laptops more expensive.

Pros
  • Good gaming performance at 1080p
  • Solid chassis and keyboard
Cons
  • Battery life is quite poor
  • Display is unexciting

FAQ

Q. How much RAM do I need in a gaming laptop?

Random access memory (RAM) is the memory a computer uses to store data related to active tasks. While adding more RAM won’t make your computer faster, it will enable it to handle more tasks simultaneously, making your experience smoother and more responsive. While some low-end gaming laptops ship with 4GB or 8GB of RAM, for an optimal gaming experience, we recommend buying one with a minimum of 16GB of RAM.

Can I play virtual reality (VR) games on a gaming laptop?

Yes, you can do this with additional hardware. Virtual reality games can be installed and run from any Windows-based machine, and they require special equipment like VR goggles and hand controllers (sold separately). Before investing in a VR kit, make sure your gaming laptop meets the technical requirements of the VR games you want to play.

Q. Does Apple make a gaming laptop?

While many video game developers port their most popular titles to Apple’s macOS operating system, Apple does not have a laptop that’s designed specifically for gaming. However, most Apple laptops have competent GPUs that can deliver an average gaming experience. If you’re more than a casual gamer, stick with Windows. Many of the most popular gaming titles are PC exclusives.

Are high refresh rate panels worth it for laptops?

We love high refresh rate screens here, and while you cannot guarantee your RTX 3060 will deliver 300 fps in the latest games, you’ll still see a benefit in general look and feel running a 300Hz display.

Where are the laptops with AMD graphics cards?

Your guess is as good as ours. A few gaming laptop SKUs offered the RX 5000-series cards, but they were thin on the ground. But AMD has promised RX 6000, Big Navi mobile GPUs will be on their way to gaming laptops in the first half of this year, but so far we haven’t seen them in the labs.

Do you need a gaming laptop with an RTX GPU?

Picking up one of the latest Nvidia GPUs in your gaming laptop doesn’t need to be a costly affair – RTX 3050 machines have been spotted at prices that would previously have sat on older GTX models. Nvidia’s RTX chips are currently in their 30-Series, one up from the 20-Series launched last year, and you’ll find the vast majority of gaming laptops on the shelves are sporting them. That doesn’t necessarily mean you need one if you’re just playing smaller games on a budget, in which case a GTX 1650 is still a worthy consideration. However, the bottom line is if you’re buying a gaming laptop today, the choices on offer will revolve around the RTX 30-Series line.

Can you spend under $1000 on a gaming laptop?

It’s absolutely possible to spend less than $1,000 and still pick up one of the best gaming laptops on the market. Our favorite models under this price range are the Dell G15 and the Asus TUF Dash F15, though the Acer Nitro 5 also offers plenty of value in its cheaper configurations as well. You might be dropping down to 8GB of RAM or a cheaper version of an Intel processor, but if you’re playing lighter titles or you’re not fussed about the latest and greatest in performance there are plenty of options out there.

Which brand is best for gaming laptops?

Overall, the best gaming laptop brands include Razer, Alienware, MSI, Asus and Acer. However, there are a number of companies all competing for the title right now, from budget-oriented developers to high-end industry staples. Finding the best gaming laptop brand, however, may come down to how much you’re willing to pay and how much you value extra features like mechanical keyboards and RGB lighting in your chassis. Alienware, for example, produces some incredible machines with these features built in, but at a significant premium – whereas Acer’s machines tend to be more conservative in their builds but offer reduced prices.

Conclusion

After untold hours of testing, we have finally finished this roundup of gaming laptops. That’s not to say that we have covered every gaming laptop currently on the market, and several of the laptops we tested are now sporting outdated components. However, we have enough familiarity with the various offerings that we feel comfortable in making some recommendations.

The system has a Core i5 CPU and a 144Hz refresh rate display. We’ll compare them to other systems. It can be hard to find the best gaming laptop among the myriad of options available today. However, we’ve compiled a list of the best gaming laptops under $1,000, including the HP Victus 15.

These best gaming laptops under $1,000 are perfect if you’re looking for a powerhouse laptop with an unbeatable price.

Speaking of brute force, the Sager NP9262 is a strong notebook, powering through our gaming benchmarks at a speed that rivals many of the laptops currently available. With frame rates that are significantly better than those found on many other models, it truly stands apart from the rest of the competition. Individuals looking for a laptop geared specifically towards portable gaming will likely appreciate all of the great features the Sager NP9262 has to offer. If you prefer more portable laptops, then you will be satisfied with the Dell M1730 as well.

The only downside is that the Dell M1730 still only offers dual-core processors and 8800M GTX SLI graphics cards instead of 9800M GT SLI or the powerful 9800M GT SLI and quad-core processor of the NP9262. Since both have relatively similar size and prices are the same, it’ll come down to performance with more power preferring the NP9262.

The In many ways, the Alienware m15x is the most interesting notebook we’ve tested. Unlike other 15.4″ notebooks we’ve tested, this one offers great gaming performance, and its Smart Bay lets us install an additional battery instead of an optical drive.

While we’d prefer not to have to reboot to switch between discrete and integrated graphics, it’s still better than not being able to save power and extend battery life. Our labs expect to see a few more notebooks that support Alienware’s BinaryGFX Centrino 2 in the next month, and we’re excited to see the differences. Unfortunately, the M15x does not seem as durable as we would like, and given the price, this is something that needs to be addressed.

We like the Sager NP9262’s power and the Alienware m15x’s interesting features, but many people find the Gateway P-7811’s overall performance and convenience the best. Alienware’s performance is comparable to the m15x in gaming, and its battery life is better in most cases.

Our biggest concern with the P-7811 is its instability. We have not yet received a solution to the periodic lockups we’ve encountered. For under $1500, however, only the instability can be considered a negative. Besides that, the chassis feels bulkier than it needs to be – we would prefer a thicker laptop instead of the protruding battery – and LCD quality isn’t quite as good as competing laptops.

Our article will be updated once we receive a solution. Until then, the P-173XL (the replacement of the P-171XL) is a reasonable alternative to the P-7811. It is possible that we just have a lemon when it comes to our test notebook, so if your local Best Buy has the P-7811 in stock, you might want to just give it a try.
